Whether chasing a story with FOIA requests or attending an event for a flowery feature write-up, reporting gives you an opportunity to tell someone else’s story. It’s an honor — and not something to be taken lightly.
Editing stories for the web is my favorite part of being a copy editor. I love checking the pieces for grammar while also preparing them visually for the website. The crime story pictured below required close examination to make sure the reporter wasn’t accusing anyone.

There’s a certain art to writing a social media post that is meaningful and attracts readers without being clickbait. There’s also much joy to be found in creating a news aggregation page that serves readers. The tweet below led readers to a story that really connected with me.
